Background
When TANAKA, a professional make-up artist from Japan, came to us, it was clear this was not just a website. For an artist, a personal site is an extension of their style and taste. It has to do more than list work — it has to give you a sense of who they are.

The challenge
TANAKA was clear about what she wanted: the site had to feel like her. The hard part is that a feeling is difficult to pin down — hers comes from her Japanese background and from the kind of beauty Japanese make-up is after, striking and calm at the same time. Our job was to turn that into something you can see.
What we did
Japanese blue as the base
A blue that means something in Japanese culture, so the feeling is set in the first glance — and a colour TANAKA loved herself.
Stylised imagery
We worked over her photographs in detail — light, tone and texture — to keep the beauty Japanese make-up is known for.
Style above everything
Layout, type, empty space: every decision was made to serve the style, and anything unnecessary was removed, so all the attention stays on her and her work.

Results
- A personal site that feels Japanese and looks professional
- It reads like a gallery — the work and the person come first
- A clear visual identity, from consistent choices about layout, type and space

Blank Design really understood what I wanted. They were not just designing a website, they were shaping a character for me. From the colour to the feel of the photographs, every detail is my style — like a version of me online.
